About me and my
work
My frames are sourced from two local framers. I buy frames from off-cuts
(usually lime-wood) - leftover wood which would otherwise be thrown out. This fits in with my ethos of recycling. I
don't know until I'm in the shop, what size frames may be available; as I'm not interested in churning out the same
old, this is ideal for my way of working. And adds to the uniqueness of each work.
My current focus is the china clay areas around St Stephen in Brannel, in mid-Cornwall where I lived for many
years. The tips, the pits, the strata - all present a challenging opportunity. I will continue with the theme of
the sea in my Shimmer Deep collection.

Background
Sewing and working with fabrics is in the blood; my mother and
grandmother being higly competent seamstresses. I began embroidery from an early age and making clothese and
embellishing has been part of my life - ballet skirts for a local dance school, carnival costumes, pantomime dame
outfits...but with no formal training. Since then I have done a foundation year in City and Guilds Creative
Studies; day courses at Duchy College (Stoke Climsland); and was then able to afford the time to do a year and a
half with Nina Humphreys, an excellent tutor, on a Creative Textiles course. All of this, and a life time of
learning has opened the door to new possibilities.
