Processes and Techniques
I use scrap and/or recycled materials; mainly silks or various weights, but
also organza, lace, calico and other natural fibres. These are space-dyed in small batches. It takes 5-7 days
for a batch to mature. On rinsing, I will find that each bit of fabric will be subtly different from the others
- and usually unrepeatable! Which adds to the joy. (I also have some very colourful dusters now! I build up
each picture using small amounts of fabric, threads, found objects, etc. Machine and hand embroidery are then
worked in. I may burn or distress the fabric in some other way to reach the desired effect.
